On our journey to the District 4 Conference in Colorado Springs, we, the Navarro College team, made a pit stop at the great State Fair of Texas. Beyond team building and indulgence in the latest fried food creations, this annual excursion serves as a source of inspiration for all of us in the marketing office.
Each year we come back to campus and are able to implement ideas from things we find. For instance, in 2019, a local photographer that we use who has been the official State Fair of Texas photographer for over 19 years told us to go see his exhibit showcasing his state fair work. One of the items that we saw was a picture collage from a bunch of single images and that was the inspiration for us during the pandemic. From it, we created a memento for each graduate, as we could not hold an in-person graduation. We have also come back with ideas for wall wraps and wayfinding signage.
This year was no exception as we found many new ideas and are excited to bring them back to campus. Courtney Vandiver, Social Media Specialist found an idea from the Texas Tech 100-year display that she would like for us to do for our 80th anniversary that will be celebrated in a couple of years. In addition, the Creative Arts building provided some great inspiration for our upcoming pumpkin decorating contest. We also saw some new wall wrap ideas, trash can covers and a neat wayfinding sign that uses a QR code to provide walking directions. Every team member was into trying some of the new prize-winning fried food combinations – as well as our old standbys like a Fletcher’s Corn Dog.
The team loves this annual event for team bonding and recharging. It was great to fit this in before flying out to Colorado Springs where we then hit up the Garden of the Gods national landmark before the conference started on Wednesday.
