This year’s District 1 conference was held Nov. 5-7 in beautiful Annapolis, Maryland. Over 100 attendees enjoyed informative programming, great networking opportunities, and quaint accommodations at the Historic Inns of Annapolis.

The theme of this year’s conference was “Stories,” and the event’s sessions focused on exploring innovative ways to communicate with prospective students. District 1 Director Eve Markman of the Community College of Philadelphia was a very gracious host, while co-chairs Jodi Neal and Mary DeLuca of the Community College of Baltimore County – along with a group of very dedicated conference planning volunteers – worked tirelessly to pull together a successful event.

Along with the many Medallion awards that were given out, three individuals were also recognized. Congratulations to District 1 Pacesetter of the Year, Dr. Michael A. Cioce, president of Rowan College at Burlington County in New Jersey; District 1 Communicator of the Year, Jodi Neal, director of creative services at the Community College of Baltimore County; and Sean McCool the creative services and marketing specialist at Pennsylvania Highlands Community College, this year’s District 1 Rising Star.

Off-site social activities included a “Historic Ghost Walk Tour” along the cobblestone streets of Annapolis and an opening night dinner at the Irish-themed Galway Bay restaurant.

As it does every year, District 1 offered all conference attendees a great professional development experience filled with valuable networking opportunities and a chance to explore a unique location.
